Tuesday, 8 November
College Comparison

1) Warm Up: Planner Update
  1. Fill in any upcoming due dates, tests, projects, family events, etc in your planner.
  2. Add a brain break.
  3. Write a SMART goal for the week.
  4. Suggest or bash a book you've read this semester.
2) Comparing App to Another College
  1. Finish your Venn diagram.

    1. Label your first choice school and App State on the circles. If App State is your first choice school, compare App to a safety school. 
    2. On the left side of your Venn diagram, list 5 categories you will use in your comparison. Here are some possible topics: majors, location, cost, clubs I'm interested in, sports, famous for..., etc.
    3. Underneath your Venn diagram:
      1. Write a point sentence telling which of these factors is the MOST important in your college decision making.
      2. Respond in 2-3 sentences: What evidence do you have that your first choice college meets your requirements?
  3. On the back of your Venn Diagram, make sure you have:
    1. A quickwrite about your ideal college community
    2. A list of 3 things you would like to get involved in at ASU if you were to go there
    3. A list of 5 things in the Boone community or mountains that interest you
3) Closing Discussion and Reminders:
    1. What do you need to remember to bring and do on Thursday? 
    2. What questions do you have about the trip?
    3. What do you hope to learn about App? Hope to ask a student?

App State Trip Preparations


1) Warm Up: Get Ready for Tomorrow!

  1. Set your alarm for tomorrow morning. Text your parents and ask them to set an alarm too.
  2. Write yourself a sticky note with what to bring.
  3. Check where to meet for tomorrow via the link here. (Groups cannot change. Avoid asking. Thanks!)
2) Plan for Success
  1. Review the itinerary for tomorrow.
  2. Go on the Virtual Tour here.
  3. Discuss: What are you most looking forward to about tomorrow? What do you definitely want to see? Learn? Discuss? 
  4. Start an email to me:
    1. Start with a professional subject and salutation. You can also add a professional closing now.
    2. List 3 topics you could discuss in a reflective email that you write when you return from App State. 
    3. You will want to jot down notes or do a journal style reflection some time tomorrow because you will not write this email until next week.
